Learn How To Build Your Very Own Boat With These Easy To Follow Instructions

From The Desk Of: Edward Knox

Fellow Boat Enthusiast

I set this website up because I love anything to do with sailing and boats, including building my own. Anyone who loves the water should be able to have their own boat. That’s why I want to share my boat building knowledge with as many people as possible.

Since you’ve found this website I’m assuming you love boats as much as I do. The truth is, I’m always on the internet looking for boat building tips and tricks. While doing some research, I stumbled upon a fantastic manuscript by Mr. Larry Eisinger. Mr Eisinger is one of the most well-known and respected boat builders in recent history. I noticed that most of his work was available and accounted for with the exception of one of his most important pieces of work, How To Build 20 Boats’.  Even though it was first published some years ago this book has the best boat building information I have ever seen. Here’s just a snippet of what is covered in the 20 chapters:

  • Plywood and how to use it—Using the wrong type of wood will result in a boat that will sink.
  • Lofting—these degrees are so important when constructing your boat.
  • Simple step by step instructions on how to cut, measure, design and assemble ‘frames and harpin’s’.
  • What parts you should check before ‘planking’.
  • What tools, materials and accessories to use to make the safest boats.
  • Expert tips & tricks that will get your boat built faster and better.
  • Plans of how to build each particular boat

If this is the kind of information that you have been looking for, here’s the good news…

I have contacted the original copyright owners and gained permission to republish Mr. Larry Eisinger’s complete work on this website. Although I had to pay to have the manuscript reformatted and published online, boat building is my passion. Therefore, I want to share this book with as many people as possible for free.

The information is second to none and you’ll soon be building your very own boat and planning days out on the water.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Cheers and Happy Building

Edward Knox

Reading Boat Plans
Just like any example of architecture of engineering designs, boat plans are full of their own jargon and unique terms not seen in other places. For anyone who is interested in boat design, this can be a huge barrier to entry, and make the task seem any more daunting. However, the various examples of shorthand used in boat design are pretty easy to interpret once you've learned what they mean. Some of the most important ones are described below.

Tips For Buying Boats From Craigslist

Bank Repo Boats - Are They a Good Deal?
Did you know that you can get a better deal on a bank repossessed boat than you can on new and used boats? Bank repossessed boats are auctioned off for very low prices each day and you can buy one too if you know where to look. If you are interested in getting a repossessed boat, you can call up a few lenders in your town and they will help you figure out where you can take a look at boats that have been taken by the banks.
