Boat Transporters Move Watercraft Over Land

For those who own a large watercraft, occasionally there may be a need to move it across the country. When traveling by water is not possible, the services of boat transporters will be necessary. Depending on the size and weight of the boat and the distance it has to be moved, prices for boat transporters can also vary depending on the services they offer.

When looking for boat transporters to move your craft, the main consideration is they have the experience, equipment and insurance to give you peace of mind while the boat, which probably cost thousands of dollars, is put into the hands of strangers for transport. Being referred to boat transporters by a close friend who have used their services in the past or the marina at which your boat is moored, or will be moored, can usually put you in tough with a qualified mover.

Many boat transporters also offer the service from water-to-water, meaning they will take the boat out of the water, prepare it for safe transport and put it back in the water when they reach the destination. Of course, this type of service will cost more than if they just load the boat on their trailer and move it for you.

Preparing Boat For Overland Trip Takes Time

Before boat transporters arrive at the dock to lift your boat onto their trailer, you should go through the craft insuring that everything is secured for transport. Regardless of the care of the movers, there may be some rough spots on the road that cause cabinets to pop open, spilling their contents all over the lower deck of the boat.

Make sure everything in the cupboards are properly packed for safe shipment and that anything breakable is properly secured. One thing many people forget about while waiting for boat transporters to arrive is disconnecting utility hook ups. If your boat, moored at a marina, has connections for electric, water and waste those companies will have to be contacted ahead of time to insure they are all disconnected before the boat transporters arrive. You will be charged for any time they spend waiting around for the boat to be ready to lift.

Your boat should be wrapped in plastic shrink wrap to prevent any road damage or damage from flying debris while zipping down the highway. You should also insure the boat transporters have secured all necessary permits and escorts, if needed, for moving the boat through different states.
